History of ASPIRA:
ASPIRA of Illinois is an historically Puerto Rican not-for-profit organization committed to preparing inner-city, high-need youth for success in college and beyond. ASPIRA of Illinois was founded in 1968 by a group of community leaders and educators to address the social and educational challenges of Puerto Rican students. Dr. Antonia Pantoja’s vision has created a lasting legacy in Chicago and beyond.
Today, ASPIRA of Illinois serves 1,400 students, annually, in ASPIRA’s four charter schools and over 900 students in ASPIRA’s youth center programs. Currently, across the Chicagoland area, there are tens of thousands of ASPIRA alumni who attribute their success to the guidance and training they received from ASPIRA. ASPIRA is a movement that continues today.
